Timmins & District Multicultural Centre

The Timmins and District Multicultural Centre is a non-profit organization providing newcomers to Canada with immigrant settlement services. The Centre officially opened its doors in May 2011 at 12 Elm Street. N., and relocated on June 2, 2014 to its new home at 119 Pine Street South, suite 10. The Centre’s goal is to make newcomers transition to Canada and the North as simple as possible and to direct and provide them with the necessary resources to do so. Services that the centre provide include needs assessment and referral, consumer and community information, assistance completing government forms and assistance in the following areas: 1) Health issues, such as obtaining a Health Card and child immunization, 2) Education, such as school registration issues, 3) Housing, 4) Immigration and citizenship applications and classes, 5) Consumer information, 6) Job preparation skills, 7) Medical services, 8) Canadian law, 9) Interpreter and translation services (feeds apply for translation). The centre also matches newcomers with volunteers to serve as a professional or community mentor for the first few months in the area. The Multicultural Centre is also partnered with the Timmins Local Immigration Partnership (TLIP). The Timmins Local Immigration Partnership (TLIP) was formally established in March of 2009 through funding from Citizenship and Immigration Canada. TLIP works to assist our region in building capacity to achieve success in immigration related opportunities and provide a collaborative framework for the development and implementation of effective programs for the successful integration of newcomers choosing to live in Timmins. Over the past four years TLIP has been engaging newcomers to understand their specific needs, issues, and challenges while communicating the socio-economic benefits of immigration to the community. Through these efforts, TLIP has developed a comprehensive strategy which outlines steps to improve the accessibility and synchronization of newcomer settlement and integration services
