Timmins, ON—More than 600 people came out to celebrate the best of Timmins business at the 2014 Nova Business Excellence Awards, held May 22 at the McIntyre Arena. Now in its 12th consecutive year, the sold-out gala event saw 15 awards handed out across a range of categories. Hosted by the Timmins Chamber of Commerce, the event was emceed once again by the Chamber’s immediate Past President Art Pultz, of Rogers Communications Inc. The slate of outstanding entrepreneurs honoured throughout the evening is a testament to Timmins’ world-leading talent, said Timmins Chamber President Phil Barton. “Every year, the Nova Awards serve as a reminder of the unique talent and passion of Timmins’ business community,” said Barton. “Tonight is another great example, as all our nominees have a great story to tell, and their achievements are truly impressive. We’re extremely proud to recognize their hard work, and what they do to make Timmins a better place.” In this spirit of celebration, the evening gala transformed the McIntyre Arena with a “Garden Party” theme to reflect the ability of Timmins businesses to grow and flourish. Attendees set foot on real grass laid throughout the entrance, while a backyard pagoda helped to build the theme. The recipients of the 2014 Nova Awards were carefully selected from more than 95 nominations by a committee of six independent community judges. As every year, the judges determine the award recipients without any input, influence or oversight from the Chamber Board of Directors or staff, thereby ensuring the validity of the process and the results. “This event has become an important tradition not only for our business community, but the region at large, as the desire to honour Timmins’ entrepreneurs is seemingly boundless,” said Barton. “Given their countless contributions to making this a great place to work, live and play, we’re always thrilled to see such strong support from the growing number of attendees coming out to honour them.” To view a gallery of photographs from the 2014 Nova Awards, spanning the finalists’ reception to the awards ceremony to the post-event celebration, visit the Chamber’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/TimminsChamber Business Contribution to Community (1-30 Employees) Award Sponsored by BMT Insurance & Financial Services Dubé Designs Porcupine Gold Mines - Goldcorp Canada Ltd.
