The 2024 Federal Budget was tabled yesterday, announcing $52.9 billion in proposed new tax measures, funding to housing, health care, defense and skills development, as well as a new carbon tax rebate for small businesses, over the next 5 years. Budget 2024 key highlights: 🔹The capital gains inclusion rate for corporations and trust will increase from 50% to 66.7% on any capital gains exceeding $250,000 in a year, realized on or after June 25, 2024. 🔹Increase of the lifetime capital gains exemption limit on the sale of qualified small business corporation shares to $1.25 million, applying to dispositions on or after June 25, 2024. 🔹New Canadian Entrepreneurs’ Incentive, reducing the regular capital gains inclusion rate on the sale of qualifying shares by half, up to a lifetime limit of $2 million capital gains realized per individual. Specifically, the capital gains inclusion rate under this incentive is 33.3% for qualifying dispositions, as compared to 66.7% under the proposed capital gain inclusion rate rules discussed above. 🔹New Canada Carbon Rebate available for small businesses in provinces with federal carbon tax. Refundable tax credit based on employee count for Canadian-controlled private corporations with under 500 employees. Congratulations to member Vanessa Génier, founder and CEO of Quilts for Survivors, on receiving the 2024 Women of Influence+ Top 25 Women of Influence Award at the April 9 lunch in Toronto. The award recognizes women and gender-diverse role models for their achievements, contributions to women's progress, and efforts in driving positive change. Quilts for Survivors was founded in 2021 with the initial aim of crafting 215 quilts to commemorate the 215 unmarked graves discovered in Kamloops, British Columbia. Since then, Vanessa and their global team of volunteers have delivered over 4,500 quilts to Residential School survivors throughout Canada. Join us in celebrating Vanessa and Quilts for Survivors for their remarkable achievements and for being recognized as part of the prestigious 2024 Women of Influence+'s Top 25 Women of Influence!
