We are thrilled to share this incredible time-lapse video of Centennial College's A Building which has recently been awarded the LEED Gold Certification by the CAGBC | Canada Green Building Council! 🏆 Completed last summer, this stunning building is not only Ontario's first Mass Timber Institutional building but also Canada's first Mass Timber Higher Education building. It's also designed with Zero Carbon and WELL Silver certifications, making it a true leader in sustainable design. The remarkable Indigenous design incorporated by Smoke Architecture Inc. expresses the principles of Two-Eyed Seeing. Centennial College has also taken concrete steps towards inclusivity by ensuring all Gender-Neutral washrooms are available on each floor and created a new Multi-Faith Prayer Room with separate male and female ablution rooms. We are honoured to be part of a community that values inclusivity, sustainability, and Indigenous culture. Thanks to the involvement from Gow Hastings Architects, Mantecon Partners Inc., DIALOG, and Colliers and congratulations to Centennial College for this incredible achievement!  #MassTimberBuilding #SustainableBuilding #BuildingForBetter #InclusiveDiversity

With work on the Cowichan District Hospital Replacement Project ongoing, EllisDon’s innovative virtual reality (VR) technology is enabling future hospital staff to preview the new facility and tour their future workplace years before the official opening!  Scott Hunter, VDC Area Manager for Buildings, Alberta & Civil West, spoke with CTV News Vancouver Island about assisting hospital staff to provide input on the new design, layout, but most importantly, how it can best serve the team ergonomically for when the hospital is being built. This provides teams the opportunity to optimize their spaces for improved patient care and staff experiences, save money and improve environmental sustainability by reducing the need for physical mock ups. This week we’re honouring Mental Health Week during May 6 – 12, an initiative sponsored by the Canadian Mental Health Association. This year’s theme is “Healing Through Compassion”, focused on the need to expand and show our compassion and kindness to others and to ourselves.   The term ‘mental health’ refers to a state of balance between our physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual selves. Our wellbeing affects how we relate and respond to others, how we think and behave, and how resilient we are to life’s daily stressors 💙 At EllisDon, we are honouring Mental Health Week by highlighting our new microsite focused on national mental health resources catering to our employees’ specific needs. Share with us in the comments below on ways you show compassion to others and click here to learn more https://lnkd.in/gbzDbeBf #MentalHealthWeek #HealingThroughCompassion #ThisIsMyEllisDon

Today, we hosted various leaders at one of our worksites, MCity, including David Piccini, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills / Travail, Immigration, Formation et Compétences and Hon. Charmaine Williams , Associate Minister of Women's Social and Economic Opportunity, to support announcing the Working for Workers Act 5. This Act and Bill supports encouraging more women, youth and newcomers to enter the skilled trades industry, protecting workers from virtual harassment offsite, requiring clean and sanitary washrooms, and necessitating menstrual products on construction sites. Stephen Chaplin, SVP for Health, Safety & Environment and Jennifer Khan , B.A, CMP, VP of Inclusive Diversity were also joined by countless EllisDon employees onsite to support the introduction of the Bill today. We look forward to seeing the great initiatives implemented in our industry. #WorkingforWorkers #WomeninConstruction #BuildingForBetter

It’s Safety Week and we’re coming together to shine a spotlight on the health, safety, and wellbeing of everyone in our communities and workplaces.   This year, the Safety Week theme is “Value Every Voice,” where the focus is on driving personal ownership, encouraging ideas, and strengthening our culture. Safety isn’t a matter of luck; rather, it’s shaped by the choices we make every day. As we continue our journey towards safety excellence, let’s not forget our “Why” - whether it’s returning home to loved ones, pursuing personal goals, or simply enjoying life to the fullest. Hear from EllisDon employees from across the country on why safety is important to them! #SafetyWeek2024 #BuildingForBetter #ValueEveryVoice

On April 25, Jennifer Khan , B.A, CMP, VP of Inclusive Diversity, participated in a panel with Jennifer Green from Skills Ontario; Natasha Braganza from Maple Reinders and Meg Mathes from Modern Niagara Group, discussing some of the barriers that women face in the construction industry during the Women in Construction Gala held by the Ontario General Contractors Association (OGCA), in partnership with the CAWIC - Canadian Association of Women in Construction. “The obvious answer to ensure women are included is to invite them to the discussions. I also believe sponsorship is important and having someone to "vouch" for you can be helpful. But here’s the catch, some of these aspects may be out of your control. Regardless of where you are in your career, here are three things you can do: Assume positive intent, ask for what you want, and find an ally.” Thank you to the OGCA and the CAWC for hosting this thought-provoking event for women in construction. #WomenInConstruction #WomenInLeadership

On National Skilled Trades Day, we want to celebrate the importance of skilled trades in the construction industry! 🦺    At EllisDon, we're proud to invest in the next generation of skilled trade workers through our partnership with the York Region District School Board and the S.T.E.A.R Program (Skilled Trades Exploration and Readiness Program).     This semester, we have two high school students on site, rotating through various trades every two weeks. The program provides students with career exploration in skilled trades and the construction industry, allowing them to gain first-hand experience from professionals and earn high school credits for the semester.     We recognize the importance of investing in the next generation of skilled trade workers and opening doors at a young age to inspire the pursuit of a career in the construction industry. Let's continue to celebrate and support the contributions of skilled trade workers everywhere.    Click below to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gYqa632c  #NationalSkilledTradesDay #STEARProgram #ThisIsMyEllisDon
